Not So Quick Vick

Rumors abound as to what type of punishment Roger Goodell will evoke upon Michael Vick. Some reports indicate that Vick will be out all of the 2009 season, while other sources say that there is potential for the suspension to last 6-8 games.

It seems plenty of people who are not decision makers feel that Mike has paid his debt, served his time. But truth be told, breaking state and federal law is one thing, and lying to your employer about your illegal activities is another.

So many seem to forget that it’s like the NFL is the employer. The NFL sets the conditions of employment. The players agree to the terms of the NFLPA, and a conduct policy. The teams may decide whom to employ, and pay the players, but Goodell is the head honcho and determines eligibility.

If you were to lie to your employer, and your union, regarding an investigation you were under, that may not be the best way to stay employed.  Most private businesses would have found some clause in the contract to fire someone in Vick’s predicament, or the employee would probably have to quit due to jail time and ruined reputation.

Here’s what is seeming to happen, the NFL wants a hirer standard.  It’s a private business, and therefore subject to the rules they want to make as long as they are not discriminating and violating laws.  Vick is now a fellon, so he falls under a large umbrella of “who would really want to hire a fellon?”.  Vick will be able to play eventually.  Some team won’t pay him too much, but by then, he may not really be worth the roster spot as talent continues to come into the league.  Eventaully, Vick will get cut because his time will have passed, and he will have to find something else to do.  Since very few will hire a fellon, Vick better start another business, since he ruined his brand-name.

Rewind – Game 2

Yes, I am a total lame-o for not posting immediately when I arrived home from Game 2 of the NBA Finals.  BUt, I did hve company in town, specifically for THAT game, so I had to entertain… and watch myself on the replay of  SportsCenter from the plaza at L.A. Live.

Awesome seats!!!!  Sat in the 200s because I get too nervous sitting in the 300s.

court-warm-up

Goodness, for it t go overtime was amazing.  I did get some swag while there… but I really wanted a Lakers NBA Finals koozie.

Game 2 – The Sunday Lake Show

Yes, I will be in attandance at today’s NBA Finals Game 2. Actually, I’m trying to figure out which shade of purple to wear… a plum tank top by Trina Turk or a lighter V-neck from H&M.

I’ll have plenty of pics later and news, but in the meantime, you can follow me on Twitter.

Federer Ties Sampras, I’m Sad

Maybe it’s becuase I’m a loyal American, or because I’m a total homer, but I’m a bit bummed Rodger Federer won his first French Open title today.

I grew up watching Andre Aggasi and Pete Sampras (product of my Palos Verdes neighborhood) and always thought so highly of these guys, especially Pete when he kept winning, and winning, and winning… Now with Rodger, I just feel so indifferent to his play.

When Rafael Nadal became a staunch competitor and challenged and took over Rodger, I was glad to see someone else in the mix, even if Andy Roddick was as successful as I liked.

So, congrats to Rodger, but he’s no Pete.

The Best Threesome To Date

…can be found at Bethpage and consists of the following -

  1. Ben Roethlisberger
  2. Micheal Jordan
  3. Justin Timberlake

*Swoon* pretty good set up, huh?  This threesome will be joined by a  police officer from Arizona who won the on-line voting for the U.S. Open Challenge, which will be taped on June 12.

JT played in this same event last year at Torrey Pines where he shot a 98, and yes, I watched it… all.  I have never played a full round.

The caddies, for the most part, were announced back when the news broke of the threesome.  At the time, Big Ben did not have a caddie, but my how things have changed.  Rocco Mediate is going to follow Big Ben around for the day and lend his services.

Lakers Tickets – the truth behind the on-sale

Today, Lakers tickets for Round 4 Home Game 1 & 2 went on sale.  I am pooped, seriously!

The season ticket holder & American Express presale at 2pm yielded me NOTHING!!!!  That was frustrating.  So, I checked back at 4pm for the “Lakers Supporters Presale”.  No dice either.

Thanks to the Lakers Ticket Exchange, I am now seated in the 200′s for Game 2.  Now from my understanding, season ticket holders are able to buy as many as 6 tickets, so if you bought a pair of season tickets, you can buy 6 Finals tickets, and sell the 4 you don’t use to help cover the cost of your season tickets next year.  Good to know the perks.

OMG MTV VMA’s Oh Nine

Well, the rumors of Andy Samberg having Justin Timberlake team with him during the opening of the awards show on Sunday came true. He did not join on-stage at the show’s open, but instead during the movie spoof open. It was pretty funny.

Definately not funny was Eminem’s reaction to Bruno, another character of Sacha Baron Cohen, flying through the Gibson Amphitheater but “accidently” landing upon Eminem and his security. He landed butts-up, too. Kinda gross. I thought it was kinda shady how MTV would be willing to sell Em out on a skit like that.

I was up at Universal during the day Sunday, it was kinda crazy.  Amazing how early MTV makes the attendees arrive.  Attendees, as in those with tickets to stand in the pit, or to be seated in the venue.  They make the kids show up hella early to have them in their place, all primped and proper, way before the noteables arrive.  I did my business, then fled just as the red-carpet stuff started, thank goodness.
