Tiger Out In AZ

Tiger Woods lost in the second round of match play on Thursday.  I thought he’d go further.  Tiger is the only reason I watch any golf; I’m sure he is the only reason plenty of people watch golf.

Viewership probably was huge on Wdnesday for Tiger’s return.  Let’s hope the new knee holds up for him.

No Big Ten Title For Purdue

With a loss at Michigan last night, the Boilers are out of the race for the Big Ten Title.  Michigan State is just out of reach and is still on Purdue’s schedule with 3 games left in the season.

Purdue’s win over MSU last week looked like promising padding for the NCAA tourney resume, but this latest loss at Michigan while Ohio State, Northwestern, and round 2 at MSU are in the immediate future make Purdue’s seeding in the NCAA tournament likely to decrease into 6th seed territory.  purdue will make the tournament, though… they are in no way on the bubble.

No Half Way For Vick, All The Way Home

Michael Vick will end up skipping the halfway house and get to go home, provided he is electronically monitored and checks in with his parole officer.  Apparently, there is not enough room for Vick to stay at a halfway house after his stint in federal prison runs out in Kansas.

He still has a few more months to serve, but I know I don’t want him back in my NFL.  Vick’s contract runs through 2013 with the Falcons, who are doing just fine with QB Matt Ryan.

Dodgers Offer, Manny Refuses

Manny Ramirez has rejected another offer from the Dodgers, but the thing is, there is no competition.  If Manny & his agent Scott Boras believe there is a market for Manny to command a multi-year deal, they are sorely mistaken…

As an LA girl, I don’t know if I want Manny anymore.  The deal Manny wants is something he will not achieve, and where ever he ends up, Manny will be volitile for not getting exactly what he wants.  The guy is talented, but isn’t worth the risk.  I’d love to see him play here, but Boras oversold Manny before he had an idea of what the market looks like… if anything Boras looks like a bad agent and he will be the loser in all this.

Free Agent No More

In NFL news, free agency began at 12:01am EST today, but an off field move was made last night by Tom Brady.

The rehabbing Patriot’s QB got hitched to Gisele according to TMZ.

Apparently Tom’s son was there, but Bridget was not.  The modest wedding at St. Monica Catholic Church had a reception that followed at Tom’s Brentwood home.

Welcome Back

Tiger Woods is back to golf.  Thank Gawd!

He’s made a strategic decision to play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.  This tournament is played on a flatter course in the mild climate of Arizona.  So, not too many hills to hike and the weather will not be too chilly for his rehabbed knee.  Also, with match play, Tiger just has to beat the guy he’s paired with.

I can honestly say that I have not watched one single hole of anything since Tiger was not participating.

Dancing With the Stars Cast Announced

Usually ABC is able to wrangle some decent talent for their ballroom dance competition show, but this go around, I have to say I’m dissappointed.

Only 2 athletes round out the cast, Shawn Johnson & LT.

The full cast is…

Jewel
Lil’ Kim
Steve-O
Nancy O’Dell
Lawrence Taylor
Shawn Johnson
Chuck Wicks
Gilles Marini
Denise Richards
Steve Wozniak
Belinda Carlisle
David Alan Grier
Ty Murray

Now, you may wonder who some of these people are.  Well, you may know Jewel, and now you know her hubby, Ty Murray.  And you remember Julianne Hough, the dancer who has won the competition twice?  She wasn’t coming back because she wanted to be a singer, and cut an album… well, meet her boyfriend Chuck Wicks, and Julianne is on the show, too.  Now you know a secret in Hollywood.

Super Bowl XLIII

This is it, the end of the 2008 football season.  Sure, there is the pro bowl next weekend, but that doesn’t really get me excited.  Upcoming we have the combine, the NFL draft, mini camps, training camps, but we won;t see football played on a field with opposition until August.

Here’s how I see it -

Arizona vs. Pittsburgh : Cardinals

My morning has been spent in the kitchen splitting my time between peanut butter filled chocolate cookes and turkey chili.

I’ll be going to a large bash at a dear friend’s home, where on the menu is a flip cup tournament at the half.

Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!
