Yes, games were played Thursday & Friday, but to me, college fooball is Saturday.
ESPN’s College Gameday is live from Clemson / Alabama but there are a bunch of great match-ups today that prove that the contenders for this year’s national championship are putting tougher non-conference oppontents on the schedule in order to acheive a higher strength of schedule rating.
USC @ Virginia – Virginia is not ranked, but people know who they are. This game features 2 BCS conference opponents, which looks better for both schools than scheduling a game that involves a team that is not in the same division within the NCAA to roll over.
Michigan vs. Utah - It’s the first game for Rich Rodgriguez, who was ordered to pay back the $4 mil that he tried to walk away with from West Va. I want to see if this guy is worth how is has rubbed so many people the wrong way. He needs good PR STAT. A win would help.
Alabama @ Clemson – This is the highest ranked matchup of the weekend. #24 @ #9. These two teams make a lot of bank for their athletic directors by playing this game. A loss here means you are most likely out for the national championship.
I’ll have some more matches shortly…
This morning it was confirmed that John McCain has selected his running mate. He has chosen Sarah Palin (Gov., Alaska) as the VP on the GOP Ticket.
This hockey-mom of five is married to a champion snowmobilier and she used to be a television sports reporter!
I *heart* her!

A 4th opinion? Really? I think that when a knee is an torn up as yours, you may need to adjust your plans for this season.
I’m sure that you are committed to the Chargers, but teams are not as committed to their players as we all would like to believe. Self-preservation is first.
Please go ahead and schedule the surgery and the rehab; allow your team to come up with another plan for this season. A plan that will not involve you. The regular season opens in 12 days.
You will need to call this season a wash, and wish your team the best. The worst thing for you right now would be to further damage your knee and eventually end up getting surgery this season anyway.
It is really the hardest decision I’m sure you’ve had to make, but dragging this out seems like you are searching for the guy to tell you the answer you want to hear. You want to play at 100%, so do the Chargers, and your fans, so go and do what needs to be done.
All the best-
Kate
The line-up of “stars” to appear on this season’s Dancing With The Stars were announced this morning.
In all honesty, these stars are subject to a certain definition. Congrats to Warren Sapp, Misty May-Treanor, and Maurice Greene for getting onto the show.
The only reality show these folks have participated in before was their sport… they are not reality tv stars, former sit-com stars, or former-music stars. I can’t say that the athletes involved are washed up in their respective sports.
My question is how much weight will Warren Sapp lose during this competition? I hope he makes it at least halfway through.
When a team picks a player in the first round of the NFL draft, the team is banking on this player to be a starter in the near future. Unfortuantey, things don’t always pan out…
Today it was announced that over-all #1 pick from the 2005 draft, Alex Smith will not be the starter come opening day for the 49er’s. While over in Arizona, it has been reported that Matt Leinart will see more clipboard and less field in favor of 37-year-old Kurt Warner.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt has refuted this report today by stating the following-
“Contrary to everything (reported), nothing has changed,” Whisenhunt said. “We have not made a decision. We have not named Kurt the starting quarterback.”
Either way, it’s a bummer… hopefully these guys can find what it is they need to turn things around. Let’s keep in mind that Leinart is coming off an injury from last season, I’ll still give him the benefit of the doubt… is that because I’m an LA girl?
A camp-long joke by the offensive linemen became reality when Coach Norv Turner cancelled the morning workout last Thursday and loaded the Chargers team on buses to Knott’s Soak City water park to enjoy time there instead of on the field at Charger Park.
Knott’s opened early just for the team and they got in some playtime before the park got crowded. The team returned to close camp with a traditional afternoon workout.
All I can say is that a bunch of heavier guys loaded onto innertubes can be slightly scary. They are lucky they didn’t get go over the walls of any rides; one would hope they’ve got good insurance.
Football season is almost upon us, and with that I am starting to compile a list of places to watch games. I find it is important to know where to go to watch football as there are too many games on at once and I do not own enough hi-def tv’s.
I am scouting out locations. If you can refer one for me to check out personally, please let me know. I just need to know where and what’s special about it… is there a particular team it caters to, theme, or all-around great place?
I’ve already come across a few myself, but I’m looking for your help.
Winning the Gold medal against Spain earlier today was what the USA Men’s Basketball team needed to do so this 2008 Olympics in Beijing was not an embarrassment to them. Basketball has gone globally, but it is an American game, with the best players in the world playing in the NBA.
It seems like the plan tho have summer international play for the participants was the key to moving the US into international competition and to get that squad dominant again. Coach K & his staff have done a great job, and the players bought it to the system.
During the goal medal game, there was some trash talk, some arguing with the refs, and an interesting turnover streak by the US to begin the second half. It seems like eventhough Spain (with Pao Gasol) was able to keep it close, the Redeem Team was able to stick to the plan and get the win.
Congrats to USA Men’s Basketball for fulfilling their goal – Gold in Beijing. Did anyone notice Kobe singing the nationl anthem? I was proud.
**Special thanks to NBC for airing hte game live in all timezones.
Everytime I turn the tv on to watch the Olympic coverage, I am fooled by the “Live” ico in the upper right corner… little did I know that meant “Live, for th east coast”.
I do not enjoy the suffering through events I know already occurred while my viewing is purposely delayed. I would prefer NBC to gone live nationally, even if that means 5pm on the West Coast.
My concern if the Gold Medal game for the US in Men’s Basketball. I want it live, in hi-def, darnit!
Upon going to see The House Bunny last night with a good group of gals, I surprised to see Matt Leinart within the first few minutes on the big screen.
Leinart played himself at a pool party at the Playboy Mansion, accompanied by Sean Salisbury. This is the QB’s first acting role, that we know of. Other cameos include Shaquille O’Neal and Dan Patrick.
It wasn’t bad… the movie that is…
