Do you feel it? It is nearing us at a pace that is so quick that we don’t see it, but so calmly that we don’t notice it.
It is the start of something special when everyone reports back…
The smell of fresh cut grass on a field that was reseeded in the off-season…
The sound of the coaches’ whistle ending the last drill for the day…
It is getting closer to football, folks… high school, college, and NFL players have been brought back for training camp. Pretty soon there is going to be roster reductions, open scrimmages, pre-season games, and the start of 100 yards of pads, players, cheerleaders, coaches, mascots, and fans.
I can’t wait!!
It seems as if the Army has changed its mind… West Point grad Caleb Campbell will not get to see the gridiron until 2010.
Caleb was a 7th round pick by the Detroit Lions, and under the impression of being allowed to serve his remaining military obligations as a recruiter with the caveat that he must make the team. Seems like everything has now changed.
Lions president Matt Millen received a letter dated today stating that Campbell must return to “full-time traditional military duties” according to ESPN; no more pro football for him. He must serve until 2010, and there is no way he will still be in playing shape when that comes around.
It’s unfortunate that this kid was lied to. Caleb got so much pre & post draft press strictly because of his unique situation, that I would think the military could have stopped him in his tracks sooner. I find it disheartening that the military took 2+ months to figure out that they would rather have him in the trenches of war than proof of being able to serve your country in one capacity and serve your dreams in another… all during this one life.
My best goes to Caleb, i hope he can do it all.
Ok, now that you’ve seen the actual show, even though it was taped on Wednesday of last week, the best part of the ESPY’s was Kevin Everett walking out onto that stage.
To win an award is really not the story for him, the miracle is that this man who suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury, was walking. Congrats to him for having an amazing recovery.
I do have to say, Justin Timberlake is hott! I will watch him do anything, heck I recorded him on Jimmy Kimmel from Thursday. He does a decent job. He had some good writing an he’s willing to do some funny/strange gags. It’s good that he doesn’t take himself too seriously… anyone who did couldn’t pull off a hosting gig.
And Semi-Pro was a horrible movie… can anyone say publicity stunt for Will Ferrell to plug Step Brothers which actually looks like a great movie?
I didn’t watch the British Open…
Ok, actually, I watched a bit of the B.O. on Saturday morning and saw a bit today as Chris Evert was interviewed about her husband, Greg Norman, and prompted to show “her left hand” by the female course reporter du jour.
I really don’t think the size of Chris Evert’s engagement/wedding ring is news… if anything it is borderline obnoxious to have been asked. Chris was suprised to be asked, but complied. She was adorable as she followed Greg throughout the tourney, so sweet to see. It probably is a great match to have a woman who is connected to the mindset of an athlete, as most wives of athletes can never really relate, as they are far from bing an athlete themselves… having a trainer doesn’t count.
Well, there you have it… Jason Taylor was tired of Miami & the new regime and now he is property of the Washington Redskins.
What helped this situation was an injury to Phillip Daniels during 7-on-7 drills earlier today (Sunday). As a good assoiciate of mine says, “You never know what the next 48hrs will bring.”
It is 1:27am on Wednesday in New York right now… The MLB All-Star game at Yankee Stadum is still tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 15th.
I think everyone is going to play this game. This is a bit ridiculous. So much for an exhibition where the winning league gets home field for the World Series.
The crowd has SIGNIFICANTLY thinned out. It’s okay though, people who pay to go to the All-Star Game (any all-star game – NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) do not have to work the next day. These people drop G’s like I tip for my lattes… huge.
UPDATE: 1:39am Eastern – Micheal Young provided the RBI in a bases loaded situation to get the AL the win 4-3 in 15 innings. Now, time to go home boys.
I used to watch a lot of Fox News Channel, especially when at my mom’s house. But. who would have thought that you would see brett Favre on Greta Van Sustren’s show “On The Record”?
Certaintly not I, as this was not very well publicized. I will say that this is real news, about Favre un-retiring. he still needs to with-draw his paperwork and be reinstated with the commish.
It is practically certain he will not play in Green bay ad the leading contendeer is Kansas City with Herm Edwards as coach… as soon as he signs, I will be making a ticket purchase to see himplay.
The big news from Friday evening was that Brett Favre has requested, in writing, that he wants to be released from the rest of his contract with Green Bay in order to feel out his other options.
Yay for Favre!!! I know my friends who are huge Bears fans would love for Brett to make the trip a few hours south to the Chi to correct the ridiculous situation at their quarterback position.
Where ever He ends up, I will have to buy tickets for a game and go… it would be easier for me if he did end up in Chicago, because thn I could just take 1 weekend and hit some Purdue football on a saturday and a Bears game on a sunday… But this is not about me… I’m just sayin’.
As 8-8-08 approaches, the ads on NBC and their bevy of affiliated stations are getting frequent.
Their goal - to showcase some athlete that you, the viewer, will connect with… connect with enough that you check out their profile on-line and even tune in to watch that sport.
The Olympics are addicting to watch. I still remember when it was only on NBC and on tape delay, and you’d have to record your fave event on the VCR if it aired too late to stay up for. With the most hours of Olympic coverage to ever air, NBC is trying to reach almost every American. I think they’ll do it. But, I only want to watch in hi-def… I’m a brat.
So, Greg Norman got divorced from his wife, Laura Andrassy, and paid her out $50 mil… but apparently that was not enough.
Norman now has to pay $30 mil over the next 15 yrs and surrender $20 mil in goods such as homes & jewelry.
BTW, Norman recently got hitched to Chris Evert… apparently the foursome of Chris Evert, her ex-Andy Mill, Andrassy and Norman were vacationing buddies…
