Saturdays During the Summer

A great day like today in the South Bay was full of playing with my dog, hangin’ out at my mom’s house, walking around downtown Manhattan Beach, watching Wedding Crashers, going for a run on the strand, and grillin’ out at home…

Just another day in the south bay… have fun & wear your sunscreen.

More Wimbledon

Yeah, I did, I wantched more Wimbledon coverage as it flttered from ESPN to NBC to ESPN2 and eventually over to ESPN Classic.

Saw Nadal keep it close in the first set but then steam right over Kiefer… got to see Kiefer change his shirt, too… NBC didn’t decide to choose a different shot.

At this point, I am still tired of Federer, so maybe I am hoping for Nadal to take this one… actually how about some one other than the two of them.

Oh, Andy…

My fave tennis hottie, Andy Roddick, got bounced from Wimbledon in today’s day 4 action.  This saddens me.

Andy had been a constant fixture to make it into the second week over the past 4+ years… now he’s out in the second round.

He did just come off of a shoulder injury, so maybe he can a take a bit more time to gear up for the US Open.  Hopefully his fiancee can make him all better.

BTW – James Blake got ousted today, too.  Not much of an American contigent repin’ this year.  As much as I enjoy Wimbledon, I don’t know if this makes me want to get up early next weekend (4th of July weekend) to watch the telecast on NBC that the peacock claims is live, but is really delayed by 20-25 mins.

Sherriff To Shaq, Surrender Your Badge

The old news – Shaq slams Kobe in a “freestyle” rap performed in NYC, asking Kobe to tell him how somethin’ “tastes”, and also blames Kobe’s squeel during Kobe’s own off the court (but in Denver court) issues for his divorce.  Shaq told Stephen A. Smith that it was in jest and that’s “what MCs do.”

The new news – Sherriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County (in AZ), has demanded Shaq’s special deputy badge and ceremonious colonel badge be revoked.  Arpaio claims that the “racial conduct” would not be tolerated as anyone of his other deputies would be fired.  Shaq also holds badges for the Miami Beach P.D. and the Los Angeles Port Authority.

Um, I didn’t think it was very “freestyle”… maybe Shaq should try another movie instead.

Wimbledon Starts On Monday

Thank God!  My favorite tennis event, that I have yet to attend, begins tomorrow.

Federer is down, Nadal is up and Roddick is back from an injury, but did not win the Queen’s Cup (a grass court warm-up tournament in England).

Yay!  I’m excited for this fortnight.

2 Horses Euthanized at Churchill Downs Saturday

Yesterday was not a great day of racing at the famed Churchill Downs.  A horse from the first and fourth races was put down, each sustaining fractures.

Vinstar, riden by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, seems to take a bad step in the first race and fractured both front legs and suffered a dislocated right front fetlock.  Bridgmohan rode Pyro into 8th place at the Kentucky Derby.  He was taken to the hospital with a broken nose.

In the fourth race, Naughty Fu Peg fractured his right foreleg at the knee.

One has to wonder if the mainstream public only hears about the euthanization of these horses after witnessing Eight Belles being put down on the track at the Kentucky Derby where she placed second.  In other reports, another colt that is trained by Eight Belles trainer Larry Jones, failed a drug test.  Jones claims it’s sabotage.

Net Another NFL Player Arrested

What is up with driving drunk?  I don’t get it.  Seems like these NFL players keep getting popped, as they should, for their poor judgement.

Jevon Kearse, Tennessee Titans defensive end, was arrested this morning after being observed going at a high rate of speed and swerving.  The incident happened near the Vanderbilt campus around 4:40am CT.

I really am a bit disturbed by all of the antics I’m seeing these guys pull.  I hate to lecture, but being in the position that these fellas are in, HIRE A DRIVER… CALL A CAB… CALL A FRIEND… it is better than having to call your attorney the nxt day to get your $1,000 bail in cash because you can’t reach the ATM from the drunk tank.

Giants RB Behind Bars

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw has been in custody in Virginia since Sunday according to the Boston Herald Courier.

The 22-year-old from the great state of Virginia, turned himself in on Sunday to serve 30 days for a probation violation from an arrest as a juvenile.

Apparently, Bradshaw violated probation prior to his being drafted by the New York Giants in 2007, but only is handling the situation now.  Because his arresting offense occured before he was 18, it is sealed.

Tom Brady Breaks The Law

Well, Tom Brady actually did something that many of us have probably done… he got a parking ticket.  Seems like the hottie QB with baby-mama drama went to pick up some packages in the Palasades and neglected to park appropriately.  Bummer.

Indiana Folks Can Get Big Ten Network

In a stunning turn of events, those who suscribe to Comcast Cable will now be able to get the Big Ten Network if they upgrade to their digital service.

Thank goodness this has finally happened, and it’ll start just in time for the 2008 college football season.  It is about time as Comcast serves 7 states that the Big Ten has universities in.
