I think we all have waited long enough. Tonight there are 18 games being played, but you will only see national coverage of 6 of them on tv. The big 2 games being USC at Hawaii, and Southern Miss at South Carolina. Please note that the ‘Canes game is on espn3.com.
I will say that the most annoying thing for me the last few weeks has been the obnoxious retweeting by @espn_bigten. The next most annoying thing has been the ads on the radio in Los Angeles regarding Time Warner Cable’s contract expiring with the ABC family of networks which includes ABC & ESPN, and the encouragement of TW subcribers to cancel and switch to a dish or another carrier so they do not miss USC’s game or UCLA’s game.
All that said, there are some good, ranked match-ups this weekend; and with so many non-BCS conference teams highly ranked, this weekend will be the litmus test of whether or not those rankings are deserved. It is hard to argue where these non-BCS teams should be ranked when their schedules are deemed soft. This season is more-so a waste of college football, as with the realignment of so many teams next year, anything that happens this year will be a one-off.

That’s my choice, Butler.
I chose Butler because they are a great little basketball school out of Indiana.
I chose Butler because they are a friendly, hour-away neighbor of my alma mater, Purdue.
I also chose Butler because Purdue isn’t in this game.
I chose Butler because I am tired of Duke.
If Butler can change the tempo and not necissarily have the ball for more minutes, but make Duke work for EVERY point they get, Butler will win this game.
What else does Tiger have to say, other than “That’s between my wife and I,” and “That is a private matter”?
Tiger Woods will be having his interview for the Masters on April 5, and Dicky V over at ESPN is livid about it. Dick Vitale gave numerous interviews earlier this week regarding his money maker, NCAA Basketball and all things Final Four, when he revealed his disgust for Tiger talking on what is such a big day for the National Championship game, and how he is taking the spotlight away from the kids.
Here’s the thing, if you are Tiger Woods and you really don’t have much more to say, but have to do a presser for The Masters, why not do it on a day that so much else is going on? April 5th is the start of baseball and the finish of men’s college basketball, which would equal the best day to talk to the media.
With all of the heightened basketball action in the past few days, I catch myself turning on whatever random game is one when I get home, and use it as the soundtrack for the little things I do when i get home… until I find something to watch. I have caught the lesser known conferences airing their tournament games, and teams cutting down the net, NOT in HD… I use HD as the standard to know what show is good, important, and has money behind it. I will watch The Biggest Loser, which is not in HD, because it is an awesome show.
I will say that I am T-minus 14 days from going to Las Vegas for the 2nd weekend of the NCAA Tourney. It is my favorite weekend to go, and had been a tradition for many years.
In a stunning turn of events, Michigan State University has decided not to revamp their logo.
The new logo was revealed mid-January, and met with criticism mostly… the public wondering why. The changes were mostly minor in theSpartan’s helmet. There really seemed to be no point. It seemed like just one way to have people buy new stuff.
Cheers to MSUfor figuring it out.
With the Senior Bowl scheduled for January 30 out of Mobile, Alabama, many folks are wondering if this game will really raise the NFL draft value of some of these players.
Most 3 & 4 year starters decline to play since there is so much film on them as it stands. Also, there is always the risk of injury, and as a player, what can you really learn from the staff of the Detroit Lions?
During this week, plenty of NFL scouts, coaches, and owners come out of the woodwork. For the measurement portion of this exam, this is what the room looks like.

People continue to talk about Tim Tebow… the main talk now, besides his anti-abortion PSA slated to air during the Super Bowl, is that he can’t take the ball from under center, that his 3 & 5 step drop is not NFL grade, an tht arrivingat the Senior Bowl is showing people more of what he can’t do.
Who I have heard nothing of is Stafon Johnson, the USC running back who suffered a critical injury in the weight room before the fifth game of the season. This is the first playing action he has seen since.
With college football over, now basketball gets the spotlight nationally. If you are a fan of Purdue, then you have been wholeheartedly focused on the Boiler Basketball since before Thanksgiving weekend.
In a good match-up, #4 Purdue travels to #20 Wisconsin today… Purdue is the hightest ranked team to play another ranked opponent today, while #5 Duke is at #17 Georgia Tech.
In the constitution to these great United States of America, the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights allows for the right to bear arms. I completely agree with this, however, there is a lot to be said about carrying a gun without a permit in a public place, and bringing a gun into your workplace and waiving it around.
If any one of us regular citizens brought a gun into work, or any other weapon, I am sure that not onl would we be fired, but the police would be notified, and te legal course would ensure.
Apparently, some public figures in the relam of athletics look at a weapon like a gun as a toy, or threat making device in which they wouldn’t really have to pull the trigger to save themselves.
Newer face of the NBA, Gilbert Arenas, has been suspended indefinately after having brought guns into the ___ where they play. In the wake of the incident, Coach Flip Saunders has banned gambling on the team plane.
As for gambling on the plane, the coach said he did away with that on December 21 – the date of the locker room confrontation between Arenas and Javaris Crittenton in which Arenas allegedly pulled out guns he was keeping in his locker. The teammates’ dispute began during a card game on a trip home from the West Coast two days earlier.
In non-professional hoops news, Tennessee Vol Tyler Smith was dismissed from the team after being arrested on misdemoner drug and gun charges. The other 3 players involved, guard Cameron Tatum, center Brian Williams and point guard Melvin Goins have been suspended indefinately. The foursome were arrested on Jan. 1… not really the way to start the year!
Try to follow this timeline.
On Monday (Dec. 28) Mike Leach was suspended from coaching Texas Tech in their upcoming bowl game while the university investigates allegations of improper treatment of an injured player.
Yesterday (Dec. 29) Leach had his attorney seek a temporary restraining order which would prevent the suspension by his employer, and he would be able to coach this Saturday.
Today, before the scheduled court appearance regarding the TRO, a Texas Tech official handed Leach’s attorney, Ted Liggett, the coach’s pink slip…advising that the coach had been “terminated with cause effective immediately.”
Tomorrow (Dec. 31) Leach would have received a large bonus for making it that far as head coach of Tech, a bonus to the tune of $800,000.
It seems that either Texas Tech found evidence of the coach’s misconduct regarding the injured player, Adam James, who suffered a concussion, or the brass at Tech found a loophole in Leach’s contract regarding mediation being used to resolve conflicts, not a court of law, inorder to warrent the firing.
Alamo Bowl : Texas Tech vs. Michigan State – Saturday, 9pm ET on ESPM from San Antonio, TX
Yes, bowl games began last week. Did I watch those 2 bowl games? No.
Come tonight, bowling will be more of a focus. There are bowl games everyday for the next 17 days, with the exception of Christmas (a day reserved for the NBA) and Jan. 3 (a Sunday = NFL). That is more than 1 fortnight of football, and that makes me happy.
I remember when it was very important to play in a New Year’s Day bowl game… That’s how you knew you had a great season. Now it seems that TV has drawn bowl season out even longer, putting fewer games against eachother so that each bowl gets its time to shine. I actually enjoyed being able to flip around, and that has been taken away with the TV deals.
I remember the Alamo Bowl being played on Dec. 29, now it is pushed back to January…
